Friday July 3rd my children went to their aunts house for safe keeping while DJ went to his softball game. Upon his return he was gathering the brood and buckling Dom in when Mo got a lil' paniced about forgetting her cell phone in the apartment. Taking off like a bat out of hell no doubt, her aunt could see Mo's head get thrown back/glasses flying/body hitting the ground. She had in her hast and in the dark not seen the tree branch that whopped her right in the eye. Mo got up in a panic and ran in the house, later stating that she was worried her eye fell out, to take a look in the mirror. DJ phoned me at work telling me I "need to get out of work now and meet me in the parking lot" he proceeded to tell me the story. I didn't ask, but told work there was an emergency and I was leaving. Now lots of folks say that Valpo's ER stinks. Tonight was not the case for us. From reception to Dr visit was less than 15 minutes. Our nurse Terry and Dr. Kester were outstanding! They explained everything to Mo and talked her through every move they made. The on call eye guy was so concerned he had us meet him at his office. Now mind you it was 11:00pm on a Friday night the day before the 4th of July. He determined that she had a corneal abrasion. In addition he had to numb her lower eye lid and stick a long metal probe into her tear duct to see if it was severed (which it was.) We opted not to have surgery. Mo was very thankful for that. Sooooo the worse thing that could happen is that her eye might be a little more weepy than she would like at times. She said she could live with that! Vision is fine, eye ball is just a lil red (July 13) and the cuts are healing well. Mederma might be our friend in a week or so when the scabs have fallen off. Can you say holy smokes!
